Google has just made its Gemini AI even more powerful by allowing all Samsung Galaxy users to upload and analyze files for free. Previously, this feature was exclusive to users of the Gemini Advanced plan, but now, even those using the free version can take advantage of it.

Gemini File Uploads Now Available for Free Users
A recent update to the Gemini app enables free-tier users to upload various file types directly from their Samsung Galaxy devices or Google Drive. This means users can leverage advanced AI-powered document analysis without any cost. While the feature is currently rolling out to Samsung Galaxy S23 users in India, it is expected to expand to more devices and platforms soon.
How Gemini’s File Upload Feature Works
Users can upload files and ask Gemini AI questions about them. For example, they can:
- Summarize documents
- Extract key insights
- Analyze content for better understanding
This makes the Gemini app a powerful tool for students, professionals, and businesses who need quick and intelligent insights from their files.
Differences Between Free and Paid Versions
While both free and paid users can upload files, there is a key difference in how these files are processed:
- Free Version: Uses Flash 2.0, a capable AI model that offers accurate yet slightly less detailed analysis.
- Gemini Advanced (Paid Plan): Uses Gemini 2.0 Pro, a more powerful AI tool that provides deeper and more refined insights.
Supported File Types and Upload Limits
Users can upload up to 10 files at a time, each with a maximum size of 100MB. The supported file formats include:
- Text & Code Files: TXT, C, CPP, PY, JAVA, PHP, SQL, HTML
- Document Files: DOC, DOCX, PDF, RTF, DOT, DOTX, HWP, HWPX
- Google Docs & Sheets: Native Google file formats
- Spreadsheet Files: CSV, TSV, XLS, XLSX
Additionally, Gemini allows users to upload a code folder containing up to 1,000 files, provided the total folder size does not exceed 100MB.
What’s Next?
Currently, this feature is available only on the Gemini mobile app for Samsung Galaxy devices, with a broader rollout expected soon. Google may extend support to the web version and other Android devices in the near future.
Why This Matters
With this update, Google is making AI-powered file analysis more accessible to a wider audience, enhancing productivity and usability for Samsung Galaxy users. As competition in the AI space heats up, this move positions Gemini as a strong contender against other AI assistants like ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot.
Stay tuned for more updates on Gemini’s expanding capabilities and upcoming features.
